The 30th National MILO Marathon hits the road anew on Sunday at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

More than 12,000 runners are expected to troop the former American naval base for the 21-kilometer elimination run, 5K fun run and 3K Kiddies age-group event.

The top three finishers among them men and women will receive trophies, cash prizes and an all-expense-paid round-trip to Manila for the finale on December 10.

The 21K winners get P10,000 each, while the second and third placers pocket P6,000 and P4,000, respectively.

This weekly footrace, held in partnership with Bayview Park Hotel-Manila, adidas, Cebu Pacific, Department of Tourism and Power Bar, will start on Waterfront Road fronting Building 229, and will end at the Remy Field near Subic’s main gate.

Participants are advised to be at the starting area at 5 a.m. for the pre-race briefing and check-in. The race promptly starts at 6 a.m.

The 2006 season of the MILO Marathon is being held every Sunday in different cities throughout the country until December 10 for an unprecedented 30 legs.

It was the last MILO Marathon leg Antoque won, as he joined the organizing team of the Tarlac City leg last year.

Invited to grace the occasion on Sunday are SBMA Chairman Fil Salonga, Administrator Arman Arresa, SBMA Tourism Manager Benny Triguero and Mayor James Gordon of Olongapo City.

Besides the running competition, the top three schools with the most number of students finishing the 5K run get P10,000 developmental cash awards. The school team that submits the fastest time of their first 25 runners will also get P10,000. Second and third placers in both competition will get P7,000 and P5,000 respectively.

A total of P144,600 in cash is at stake for this Sunday’s MILO Marathon. In addition, another P15,000 will be raffled off on race day, including MILO jackets, caps, basketballs, and a cell phone.
