13 poachers nabbed, 1,125 kilos of illegaly caught fish seized in Subic
Operatives of the 301st Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA) arrested 13 fishermen while illegally operating with the use of fine mesh nets or "buli-buli," within six kilometers off Sampaloc Point, Barangay Cawag, this town.

Some 1,125 kilos of assorted fish varieties placed in 45 coolers were confiscated from the suspects.

A report reaching the office of P/Supt. Nepomuceno Corpus, Regional Officer, 3rd Regional Maritime Police Office (3rd RMO), identified the suspects as Celedonio Apuyan, Boat Captain; Tom Garanay; Romeo Sueso; Mario Humanta; Joel Diaz; Juanito Marinas; Ronnel Agason; Sardy Tayumo; Wilfredo Apuyan; Elmer Tarog; Renato Monterey; Arnulfo Moreno and Michael Gamaray, all residents of Barangay Lower Kalaklan, Olongapo City.

According to the report, at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, operatives led by Sr. Insp. Adriano Adsuara, PO3 Wilfredo Burbano and PO1 Ramer Saribay were conducting sea patrol along the coastal areas from Bagac, Bataan going to Barangay Pundakit in San Antonio, Zambales when they spotted the suspects on board Fishing Boat (F/B) Rosalie 2 at the vicinity of Sampaloc point, using fine mesh net.

Investigation disclosed that F/B Rosalie 2 is owned by Rogelio Dimalipot of Barangay Kalaklan, Olongapo City.

Meanwhile, the confiscated 1,125 kilos of fish were distributed to institutions like the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), San Marcelino District Hospital in Zambales and James Gordon Memorial Hospital in Olongapo City.

The suspects were temporarily placed under the custody of the Maritime Police Station pending the filing of charges of violation of Section 89 and 90 of Republic Act 8550, the Philippine Fisheries Code. (PNA)
