Laus appointed President of Clark Development Corp.
BRUSSELS (via PLDT) — President Arroyo has designated former Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) director Liberato "Levi" Laus as the new president of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) in Pampanga.
Trade Secretary Peter Favila said Laus would replace Antonio Ng at the CDC after the latter resigned to return to the private sector.
Favila said the President has approved the appointment of Laus, a townmate in her home province of Pampanga, to head the implementing arm of the BCDA for the Clark Special Economic Zone on the recommendation of businessmen in the area.
Laus served on the boards of the Fort Bonifacio Development Corp. and Bataan Technology Park Inc. from 2001 to 2003. He is the president of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. and a commerce graduate of San Beda College.
The President has chosen the Clark and Subic economic zones as the main development focus of the Metro Luzon Urban Beltway, one of the five super regions she has created in an effort to spread wealth in the countryside.
Meanwhile, outgoing CDC president Antonio Ng has appealed to all employees and other stakeholders of Clark Special Economic Zone to support his successor.
Ng tendered his resignation to CDC chairman Rizalino S. Navarro the other day during the CDC Board of Directors’ meeting.
Officials said Ng was responsible for finetuning the operations at CSEZ. Among the achievements attributed to his administration was the R4.3 billion worth of investments from 48 new lease and sub-lease agreements signed between January to June this year.
With this, the CDC was able to surpass the 87 projects signed last year which resulted in R2 billion worth of projected investments.
He was also credited for realizing the vision of Clark zone by promoting the Clark lifestyle and the four growth engines, namely aviation, infrastructure, tourism and industry. (Genalyn Kabiling and Fred M. Roxas) Manila Bulletin
