Grainpro of US Opens Storage System Manufacuring Plant in Subic
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Complementing the grain terminal facility being developed in this premier Freeport zone, an American company engaged in developing hermetic storage system has put up a manufacturing plant and marketing centre at the Subic Bay Industrial Park (SBIP).
GrainPro, a pioneer in the manufacturing of pesticide-free hermetic storage technology, inaugurated Saturday GrainPro Philippines, Inc., a new manufacturing plant that will also export its products worldwide.
The company aims to enhance the storage system while preventing post harvest losses of grains, seeds, and high value crops, particularly in hot, humid climates.
The ceremony was led by GrainPro president Philippe Villers. Other guests included United States Ambassador Kristie Kenney, Olongapo City Mayor James Gordon Jr., Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Feliciano G. Salong, SBMA Administrator Armand Arreza and Subic Bay Development and Management Corp. president Jeff Lin.
"We are very pleased to have GrainPro to ensure that the crops coming through the Subic Freeport will be in its tip top quality," Arreza said.
The inauguration signified the first production in the Philippines of GrainPro's unique and patented storage system called "Cocoons", that will allow safe storage of crops such as rice, corn and wheat and high value crops like coffee, cocoa and peanuts, for very long period of time, preventing damage from insects, rodents and molds.
The firm, Arreza said, will manufacture hundreds of Cocoons for the Asian, African and American markets of GrainPro. At present, the production is directed for supply to Ethiopia and Ghana in West Africa.
In connection with the inauguration, an international convention was also held for GrainPro distributors worldwide with participants coming from about 20 African and Asian countries.
