AIDS HOTLINE SA GAPO, AKTIBO NA!

Pinangunahan ni Olongapo City Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. ang paglulunsad sa kauna-unahang Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Hotline sa buong Pilipinas nitong ika-8 ng Oktubre 2007 sa FMA Hall ng City Hall.

Katuwang ni Mayor Bong Gordon sa “unveiling” ng AIDS Hotline ang “poster” na nagsasaad ng “NANGANGAMBA KA BA? NAG-AALALA KA BA? Kaibigan… USAP TAYO… TAWAG NA! AIDS HOTLINE 224-AIDS (2437)” sina Vice-Mayor Cynthia Cajudo, City Councilor Bebeth Marzan ng Education Committee, City Councilor Angelito Baloy ng Health Committee, United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) Envoy Bel Dado, Olongapo City AIDS Council Chairman Angelina Andrada at City Health Officer Dr. Arnildo Tamayo na Vice Chairman rin ng Olongapo City AIDS Council (OCAC).

“We initiated this kind of project to educate our people regarding AIDS, minimize if not eliminate it, and prevent its proliferation,” pahayag ni Mayor Gordon.

Siniguro ng mga opisyales ang pagiging “confidential” ng katauhan ng sinumang AIDS “victim” na sasangguni sa “hotline” sang-ayon na rin sa iniuutos ng Article VI, Section 30 ng Republic Act 8504 o Philippine AIDS Law.

Matagumpay na naisakatuparan ng Olongapo City Government ang pagkakaroon ng AIDS Hotline sa lungsod sa pakikiisa at kontribusyon ng UNFPA at Pilipino Telephone Corporation (PILTEL).

Samantala, nanawagan si Mayor Gordon na panatilihin ang kalinisan sa paligid upang maiwasan ang anumang sakit partikular na ang AIDS. “Our city has to be clean and green to avoid the spread of AIDS,” wika ni Mayor Gordon.

Gayundin, ipinabatid rin ng council na hindi awa kundi pang-unawa ang kailangan ng mga AIDS “victim” at ninanais nilang patuloy na mamuhay ng may integridad at dignidad.

Mayroong apatnapung milyon (40M) kaso ng AIDS sa buong mundo, 2765 nito ay sa Pilipinas.
