'No J-walking in Olongapo'
Olongapo City Mayor James "Bong" Gordon, Jr. recently reminded city officials and employees of the anti-jaywalking campaign of the city government.
During the flag raising ceremony this Monday, Mayor Gordon reiterated the importance of the strict implementation of the city's 'No Jaywalking' Ordinance.
"We should take the lead in informing the public that the city government will strictly enforce the ordinance on jaywalking. Compliance to this law must start from us and I do not want that a city employee or a city official be caught jaywalking," Mayor Gordon said. The Mayor also said he believes that the anti-jaywalking campaign of the city government will significantly help eliminate road accidents.
In connection with the anti-jaywalking campaign, Mayor Gordon tasked the City Engineering Office to repaint pedestrian lanes and put up additional 'no jaywalking' signboards to inform Olongapeños about the city government's strict implementation of its anti-jaywalking ordinance.
Mayor Gordon likewise tasked the Office of the Traffic Management and Public Safety (OTMPS) to make extensive information dissemination about the ordinance and keep an eye on violators. Violators of the anti-jaywalking ordinance shall be punished with a fine of not less than P100.00 but not more than P500.00 or an imprisonment of not less than five days but not more than ten days or both fine and imprisonment .
The City Ordinance No.145 or the Anti-jaywalking Ordinance was passed in 1974.
