KUDOS TO GAPO - ROSALES

AKBAYAN Chairperson Emeritus Rosetta Ann Rosales expressed admiration to the Olongapo City Government’s efforts in advancing the welfare of its citizens, especially women.

In a press conference conducted in connection with the International Women’s Month celebration, themed “CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women) ng Bayan, Yaman ng Kababaihan,” Rosales said Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr’s programs for women in the city is ‘exemplary’.

Rosales particularly pointed out the approval of the Reproductive Health Code of the city which was earlier passed by the national legislature.

“Masaya ako na nakita kong konkreto ang pagmamalasakit ng inyong punong-lungsod sa inyo sa pamamagitan ng mga konkretong proyekto para sa mga kababaihan, kabataan, peace and order at marami pang iba,” Rosales said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Gordon said he believes that women can do for the community aside from being housewives. In fact, one among the programs and projects of the mayor is to intensify the participation of women in the societal activities of the city.

Mayor Gordon also gives women opportunities to become productive members of the community by providing livelihood assistance through the City Livelihood and Cooperative Development Office.

The city likewise continues its campaign against violence and discrimination against women in relation to Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence against Women and Children.

First Lady and Zambales Vice Governor Anne Gordon, also the chairperson of the Olongapo City Women’s Council, led the city’s celebration of the International Women’s Month. The press conference was graced by Vice Mayor Cynthia Cajudo, City Councilors Ellen Dabu and Rodel Cerezo, PSSupt. Abelardo Villacorta, city department heads, city employees and local media personalities.
