NDPR WEEK, A SUCCESS!

The 30th National Disability and Prevention (NDPR) Week was successfully concluded with a closing and awarding ceremony as its culminating activity on July 19, 2008. During the ceremonies, the winners for the different events and activities of the celebration week were recognized.

Various sports competitions, talents and skills contests were held during the week-long celebration launched by Olongapo City Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. The first contests held were the Drawing Competition, Dance Sport Competition and Cooking and Table Setting Competition held in the Function Room 3 of the Olongapo City Convention Center (OCCC) on July 16, 2008.

For the Dance Sport Competition, SPED OCNHS copped first place while SPED Columban College landed second place and Nino’s Pag-Asa Center settled for third place. For the Drawing Competition, Joy Kristine Cristobal won first place while Bryan Carlo Yumang and Clarissa Ramos won 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Nino’s Pag-Asa Center won first place in the Cooking and Table Setting Competition while Pag-Asa ng Buhay Association for the Differently Abled Persons (PBADAP) won second place and SPED Columban won third place.

The sports competitions and fun games were held on July 19, 2008 at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center. Contestants competed in five different categories: badminton, chess, walkathon relay, table tennis and three-point shoot out.

The following are the winners for the sports competitons:

Six games were held during the fun games namely straw relay, ‘Maria Went to Town’, banana eating, cornik eating and basagang palayok.

SPED Columban College won the straw relay, ‘Maria Went to Town’ and cornik eating contest while Nino’s Pag-Asa Center won in the banana eating contest. SPED Columban and Nino’s Pag-Asa Center were joint winners for the ‘basagang palayok’ contest.

“Malubos kaming nagpapasalamat at naging matagumpay nanaman ang pagdiriwang ng NDPR week. Salamat sa mga sumuporta at pumunta sa aming mga activities sa buong linggo. Sana ay walang sawa pa rin kayong sumuporta sa ating mga kapatid na differently abled,” said City Social Welfare Officer Gene R. Eclarino.
