Sound policies lift 'Gapo performance

PEOPLE'S JOURNAL

The sound economic policy and hands-on leadership of Olongapo Mayor James "Bong" Gordon, Jr. paid off as the city once again leads the pack of the best middle-sized cities to live, work and operate a business.

Olongapo emerged as the highest pointer in the score card of the Philippine Cities Competitive Renking Program of the Asian Institute of Management Policy center among highly urbanized mid-sized Philippine cities in terms of dynamism of local economy, cost of doing business, infrastructure, human resources and training, responsiveness to business needs and quality of life.

The PCCRP survey covered 90 cities classified into metro, mid-sized and small, with 25 cities chosen as top performers in each category. Olongapo got high marks in all the six drivers of competitiveness with a score of 7.05 percent.

The top performing cities were recognized during awarding rites held recently at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati.
