10th NATIONAL MANGO CONGRESS
The 4-day 10th National Mango Congress was recently held at the Elena Tower Inn in Iligan City where Freddie Alfonso of the Livelihood and Cooperative Development Office participated as Olongapo City’s delegate.
The congress was attended by delegates from all over the country to talk about the different issues regarding the mango industry and how to expand as the major export product of the country.
This year, the mango congress was themed “Proficiency on Mango Productivity, Quality and Profitability in the Global Market.”
The mango industry is constantly being evaluated to analyze and elevate its potential to be a major export in the global market. Through this congress, the industry is given a broader and newer direction.
Activities during the congress included discussions in mango raising, thesis presentations and program presentations related to the mango industry.
In Olongapo City, Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon set up a City Agriculture Office to develop the agricultural sector of the city and bring new means of livelihood to Olongapenos.
Meanwhile, the livelihood projects, through the initiative of Mayor Gordon of the city are still ongoing. On July and August several livelihood programs like dried fruit processing, dimsum making and reflexology were held in the different barangays of the city
