BONGO LAUDS LADY WELDERS

Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. formally introduced Jessica Barlomento during the flag-raising ceremony on September 01, 2008 to the city officials and employees at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center. Barlomento is one of the successful welders trained by the city government of Olongapo.

It can be recalled that Barlomento was one of the lady welders and the only lady welder from Olongapo that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo recognized during her recent State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Barlomento is a resident of Olongapo. She started as a lady welder and is now a supplies officer for Hanjin Heavy Industries Corp. (HHIC).

“Jessica is a living testimony to the success of the city government’s project in the area of employment. She is one of the best welders in the entire country. Saludo ako sa inyong mga lady welders!” Mayor Gordon proudly said.

There are currently seventy (70) lady welders employed at HHIC through the help of the city’s employment program and welder training program, initiated by Mayor Gordon in response to the huge demand for welders when HHIC-Subic was built. HHIC-Subic is the largest shipbuilding facility in the Philippines.
