`GAPO WINS NATIONAL BEST CITY PEACE AND ORDER COUNCIL

Olongapo City bagged the top plum as the Best City Peace and Order Council for 2006 under the Highly Urbanized City category.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo herself, who will also be the guest of honor and speaker, and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ronaldo Puno will hand out the awards in Malacañang.

‘The exemplary performance and service delivery of your council despite modest means shall serve as role model and inspiration to other Peace and Order Councils,” Puno said in a letter to Olongapo City Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr.

The annual Best Peace and Order Council (POC) Awards is given by the National Peace and Order Council (NPOC) to give recognition to the exemplary performance of POCs around the country.

It aims to strengthen POCs to effectively coordinate public and private sector involvement towards the attainment of peace and order in the country.

Mayor Gordon, also the chairman of the city’s POC, gladly received the news from the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Provincial/City officer Ruben delos Santos.

‘This proves na ang efforts ng buong lungsod in maintaining peace and order ay epektibo. Patunay na rin ito na we can sustain the current state of the city’s peace and order kung lahat tayo ay magtutulungan,” said Mayor Gordon.

‘Ang ating patuloy na pagtanggap ng mga parangal ay indication na ang Olongapo ay isang model city sa buong bansa at testimony na we are living-up to our slogan na ‘Fighting for Excellence!” added Mayor Gordon.

It can be recalled that the City recently won as the Best Regional POC for 2007, thus, Olongapo will again compete for the Best Peace and Order Council (POC) Awards 2007 in the national level.
