ALAY LAKAD 2008, A SUCCESS!
Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. and Zambales Vice Governor and Olongapo City First Lady Anne Marie Gordon led over two thousand (2,000) participants of the 2008 Alay Lakad 2008 on October 5, 2008.
Participants of the annual walk include barangay and city officials, city government employees, delegates from the barangays of the city, civic groups, business sector representatives, students, out-of-school youth, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) employees and locators.
Vice Gov. Anne Gordon thanked all those who cooperated and helped make Alay Lakad 2008 a success, including the donors who showed their support through financial and in-kind donations.
“Malayo ang maabot ng nalikom na pondo ng Alay-Lakad Foundation, dahil dito ay may mga kabataang makakpag-aral o makakabalik sa paaralan. Sila ang mga Alay-Lakad Scholars,” said Vice Go. Anne Gordon, also the Execom Chair and president of Soroptomist International Olongapo Chapter, the lead non-government group of Alay Lakad 2008.
Mayor Gordon also proudly announced the city’s recent citations and awards including the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) award for the ‘Most Competitive Medium-Sized City’, TESDA Kabalikat Award, Lupon ng Tagapamayapa for Barangay Barretto, Gawad Kalasag Award for the Disaster Management Office and the Child Friendly City Award.
Mayor Gordon encouraged Olongapenos to continue coordinating with his administration, “Hindi ito maisasakatuparan kung hindi nakikipag-tulungan ang mga Olongapeno. Samahan ninyo ako dahil hindi ko ito kaya ng nag-iisa lamang.”
Meanwhile, the following are the recipients of Special Awards from Alay Lakad 2008:

Female- Liwliaw Abalos (85 years old)
Male- Ernesto Balmeria (81 years old)
Youngest Walker
Male- Prince Gabriel Ducot (3 years old)
Female- Mary Shaneth T. Ecleo (4 years old)
Biggest Delegation- Boy Scouts of the Philippines – James L. Gordon Council
Most Disciplined Group- Sta. Rita Computer Learning Center.
Most Colorful Group- Barretto National High School
Highest Contributor (Individual) - Oscar Santos and Linda Lim
Highest Contributor (Group) - Subic Bay Development Management Center (SBDMC)
Earliest Contributor (Individual) - Oscar Santos
Earliest Contributor (Group) - Rotary Club of Freeport Zone
“Lakad Para sa Kabataan’ or ‘Alay Lakad’ is an annual activity which is supported by different public and private agencies, religious and civic-oriented organizations.
Because of the help and educational assistance made possible by the Alay Lakad Foundation’s annual program, many of the city’s youth will be able to continue pursuing their dream to continue their studies and finish their education.

The Alay-Lakad 2008 Parade led by Mayor Bong Gordon and Alay-Lakad Execom Chair and Zambales Vice Gov. Anne Marie Gordon with other city and barangay officials. The parade took-off from the Rizal Triangle Covered Court and ended at Boardwalk, Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ), October 5, 2008.
