SENIOR CITIZENS HONORED!

The Senior Citizens of Olongapo city successfully celebrated ‘Elderly Week’, themed “Nakatatanda huwaran at gabay ng bayan”, on October 1 until October 6, 2008. Several events and activities were held in-line with this year’s celebration.

To start the celebration, a ‘Walk for Life’ was held on October 1, 2008 at six o’clock in the morning (6 am) from the Olongapo City Mall to the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center.

“Ine-encourage sila ni Mayor Bong Gordon na mag-exercise through walking at iba pang forms ng exercise,” said City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) head Gene Eclarino.

The Senior Citizens were also part of the many beneficiaries of the gift giving program from Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. which was held in celebration of his birthday on October 1, 2008.

On October 2 and October 6, an election was held in the different barangays of the city. There are thirty (30) organized Senior Citizens groups in the seventeen (17) barangays of the city.

Several Senior Citizens of Olongapo attended the regional celebration of Elderly Week on October 3, 2008 in Pampanga where they presented a folk dance during the cultural presentation.

A cultural night was held on October 4, 2008 at the West Bajac-Bajac Covered Court where various activities and contests were held. Mayor Gordon also graced the program and gave grocery items to the Senior Citizens, an extension of his gift giving program.

“It’s a kind of social gathering to make them socialize sa kanilang ka-edad at sa iba pang tao dahil gusto natin na makihalubilo pa rin sila sa atin at maging productive pa rin sila sa kanilang edad at active sa community participaption,” said Elcarino.

A Medical and Dental Mission was held on October 7, 2008 at the West Bajac-Bajac covered court. This program was sponsored by Gordon through the City Health Office.

  • I'd like to know who to contact for the Senior Citizens Affairs. We have a nationwide ballroom dance contest for the elderly. We'd like to get the contact person, name and office address. Thanks!
