KALAMPAJAM 2008, A SUCCESS!
The first annual Drum Festival: Kalampajam 2008 held on December 13, 2008 at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center was a success. The Drum Festival is one of Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr.’s projects as part of the ongoing Anti-Firecracker Campaign in Olongapo City.
Zambales Vice Governor and Olongapo City First Lady Anne Marie Gordon and the Chairman of the Task Force Anti-Fire Cracker Councilor Rodel Cerezo joined Mayor Gordon throughout the festival.
Residents from the sixteen (16) barangays and students from different schools in the city eagerly participated and performed. Participating schools include St. Joseph College High School Department, Sta. Rita Elementary School. Tabacuhan Elementary School, James L. Gordon Integrated Elementary School at Banicain Elementary School.
Participants performed their pieces using instruments made from recycled and indigenous materials such as used gallons, bottles, newspapers and plastic containers. Their performances focused on Christmas carols and how to welcome the New Year without fireworks.
“This is an opportunity for us Olongapenos to show our resourcefulness and inventiveness.
“This program is also being implemented to remind everybody about the ongoing total ban on fire crackers.
