OLONGAPO CITY CELEBRATES “LINGGO NG KABATAAN”
Youth Week or Linggo ng Kabataan will be observed in Olongapo City in accordance with Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as Local Gov’t. Code of 1991 which mandates every province, city, municipality and barangay together with the Pederasyon ng Sanggunian ng Kabataan to celebrate Linggo ng Kabataan on the second week of December every year.
In line with the event an Orientation/Seminar on the Local Government Code was conducted last December 3, 2008 along with the Election of City Boy and Girl Officials at the FMA Hall of the City Hall. The activities for the Linggo ng Kabataan will last from December 8 to 13 2008.
The activities for the celebration are Turnover and Oath Taking Ceremonies, Tree Planting, Gift/Food Giving, Livelihood Seminar, Anti-Drugs Campaign, Handicraft Training and Painting of Pedestrians to different schools in Olongapo City.
The occasion will be joined by the youth of Olongapo City, Social Development Council, City Councilors, Children in Conflict with the Law, Barangay Officials and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan.
“Nakakasisiguro ako na madaming matutunan ang mga kabataan sa gagawing selebrasyon” said Vice-Mayor Cynthia Cajudo.
The week long celebration, which is in accordance with Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr.’s program for the youth, will end with a Dance Contest dubbed as HATAW KABATAAN which will be held at the Marikit Park on December 13, 2008.
