Red Cross sends out distress call

The Philippine National Red Cross needs at least 900,000 bags of safe blood every year, Senator Richard Gordon said yesterday.

“With the risk of contracting blood-borne diseases seems to increase, the demand for safe blood is even greater,” said Gordon, chairman of the local Red Cross.

Gordon called on every Filipino to donate blood and help the country to attain a 100-percent supply of safe blood.

“I appeal to all good-hearted Filipinos who are able and willing to donate blood. For every ounce of blood we donate, many lives of people could be saved,” said Gordon.

Many patients do not have access to safe blood especially when they most need it, Gordon said.
