OLONGAPO CITY CULMINATES NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION

A culminating activity in celebration of Nutrition Month at FMA Hall of the Olongapo City Hall was held recently.

Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. stressed in his message during the program the prohibition of selling junk food and soft drinks in school canteens operating within the premises of all elementary and high schools in the city.

“We are making sure that the students are getting the right kind of nutrition, even when they are in school. School canteens can only serve nutrient-rich foods based on DepEd memorandum,’’ Mayor Gordon said.

The DepEd Order No. 8 (series of 2007) deals with the guidelines on the operation and management of school canteens in public elementary schools and secondary schools.

In line with the celebration, themed “Wastong Nutrisyon ay Kailangan, Lifestyle Diseases Iwasan”, the search for ‘’Mr. and Ms. Healthy Kids’’ and a cooking contest were held and organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), led by CSWDO head Gene Eclarino.

Kenj Diamond Noel of Johnson Day Care Center won as Mr. Healthy Kid while Zyca Leanne Shane delos Santos of Cristobal Day Care Center bagged the Ms. Healthy Kids title.

Meanwhile, Long Road Day Care Center grabbed the 1st Prize in the Cooking Contest under the Dessert Category with their specialty in ‘Vegetable Steak’ while Forestry Day Care Center won the 2nd Prize with their ‘Malongganisa’ and New Asinan Day Care Center’s ‘Picadillo de Mais’ got the 3rd Prize.

Under the Dessert Category, Long Road Day Care Center bested other entries with their ‘Camote Pudding’ while Forestry Day Care Center’s ‘Kangkong Pizza’ and Welfareville Day Care Center’s ‘Kamoteng Kahoy Patty’ got the 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively.
