GAPO CELEBRATES THE JOY OF READING
The 2009 National Book Week, organized and sponsored by the Olongapo City Public Library in cooperation with Gordon College and Capstone Institute of Business and Arts, will be held on November 24-30, 2009. The National Book Week with the theme, “Kaaya-ayang Magbasa sa Kapaligirang kay Ganda” is a program of Mayor James Gordon, Jr. intended to encourage reading and literacy among Olongapeños and to promote the public library in the city.
“This was aimed at arousing the interest in reading good books and designed to sell the public library to the community by focusing the attention of the people on its resources and the extent and nature of its services," City Librarian Beth Daduya said.
To insure greater participation of the public, the program of celebration was so designed to include the essay writing contests for Elementary and High School students, Book Exhibits and “The Battle of the English Masters” which includes Story Telling, Quiz Bee, Oral Spelling Quiz, and Oratorical Speech.
Olongapo City Adopted November 24-30 as National Book Week in 2004 under Resolution No. 57 (series of 2004)
