2009 Bb. Olongapo winner Rosemary Joan Turner will officially represent Olongapo City in the prestigious Miss Philippines Earth 2010 which will be held in November.

Turner is 18 years old, a resident of New Cabalan and currently taking up B.S. in Mass Communication at Columban College. She has undergone rigorous and intensive screening conducted by the Miss Earth Foundation before becoming an official candidate for the said pageant.

Olongapo’s very own beauty titlist is now among the fifty-three (53) candidates who will vie for the Miss Philippines-Earth title and will have a chance to represent the country in the Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam.

“We are pleased to send Rosemary Joan Turner to the Miss Philippines-Earth, she can help promote and campaign for our environmental advocacy,” Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. said after the Bb. Olongapo passed the Miss Philippines-Earth screening.

‘’Miss Philippines-Earth is intended to actively promote the preservation of the environment. Those who participate in the pageant are involved with environmental causes. The pageant winner is expected to become involved with environmental projects. We also take part in tree planting ceremonies, environmental and cultural immersion programs, sponsor visits and tours,’’ said Miss Turner.

‘’Thankful ako kasi ako ang representative ng Olongapo sa Miss Philippines-Earth, na hindi lamang beauty and brain pageant kundi isang pageant na ang layunin ay ang mapangalagaan ang ganda at kaayusan ng ating kapaligiran,’’ she added.

Looking back, Ms. Turner bested fourteen (14) other candidates who vied for the Bb. Olongapo crown on October 24, 2009 at the Olongapo City Convention Center (OCCC). Apart from the title, she also bagged three (3) other special awards, namely, Goddess of the Night Award, Best in Long Gown and Best in Swimsuit.

Meanwhile, the City Tourism Office is now accepting applications for the “Search for Bb. Olongapo 2010”. For more information, visit the City Tourism Office at the OCCC or call 224-1471.
