Athletes’ village to rise in Clark
A PORTION of a 20,000-ha property in Clarkfield in Pampanga could become the site of the next training center for national athletes, who are preparing for international competitions.
Sports officials are all set to pay the place, located in Sagovia, a visit next month after Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose Cojuangco Jr. felt convinced about its potential as a sports training center.
“I am quite interested in looking at the area,” said Cojuangco after Wednesday’s executive council meeting.
If developed, the area becomes an athletes’ village, which is much closer to Metro Manila, than the one being used in Baguio City — the National Teachers Camp.
Cojuangco said he is attracted by the area’s high elevation and the cool weather condition.
Officials of the Philippine Sports Commission will join a scheduled ocular inspection on Feb. 10.
The POC chief said they will start drawing up plans on the training center after the trip. Peter Atencio, Manila Standard
