CLARK FIELD, Pampanga — Staying at the Clark special economic zone as a tourist need not be expensive. As a matter of fact, it can cost only P100 a day.
The Clark Development Corp. (CDC) has announced a new hostel-type facility which would host tourists for as low as P100 per day starting this June.
CDC president and chief executive officer Antonio Ng said Rikko Homes II Inc., a tourism estate developer based in this province, will "refurbish and transform" a building near the Clark museum into "a hostel-type facility that will equal two to three-star hotels in the country."
"The project will make Clark more attractive even to middle class tourists who may have a tight budget for hotel accommodations," Ng said.
Rikko Homes owner Erico Limjoco said his firm will initially invest P3.5 million for the project to upgrade the building for the former Clark Medical City which is also near the Mimosa Lesiure Estate and the CDC complex. The building will be called Clark Hostel and will have accomodations for 62 guests at any time with a staff of at least 50.
"The lodging facility will have a verandah-type restaurant, gazebo and gardens that are comparable to other top tourist accommodations in the country, making them feel like staying in a high-class hotel," Limjoco said.
Ng said that the lodging facility can also be enjoyed by Clark employees and local tourists. Many of nearby hotels and villa facilities at Clark offer rates of as much as P4,000 to P7,000 per day. — Ding Cervantes
