Olongapo residents warned of deceiving text messages

“The messages circulating through text messages and by word of mouth regarding the series of abduction, rape and murder of females from club morocco, two high school students from Saint Joseph College and female workers of Omron are all untrue.” This clarification was made by Mayor Bong Gordon during his radio program “Mayor’s Corner” aired over DWGO this morning.

These rumor mongers rides on the Fajardo-Fantasia incident and its resulting fear which can instigate panic much like creating a stampede scenario that can hurt individuals, be a hostage of fear and disrupt our democratic way of life. Due to this, such individuals can actually be compared to terrorists who have the same end-effect in mind.

Many of us were actually victimized by these unscrupulous individuals. First, when we receive these text messages, then, when we pass them on to people in our phonebook, we not only are victims but turned into unsuspecting accomplices of the rumor mongers.

In order for us not to fall prey to these frauds, we can call the Mayor’s Office 222-2206, 222-2232 during regular office hours and 223-2040 after office hours, Mayor Gordon’s CP# 09178961947 or the Chairman of Telecommunications, Councilor Edwin Piano at 09192452677 eMail: edPiano@subicbay.ph. We should also try to trace its source by asking who originally sent the message. Instead of passing the fraudulent message to your friends, relatives and neighbors, spare them from being victimized by immediately deleting the message.

As of this writing, another flurry of deceiving text messages were reported, it’s informing the public that 666 cult is now operating in the community. That this cult is tattooing 666 in the abdomen of all of its rape victims and that they are suppose to be able to victimize six hundred sixty six (666) women by June 6, 2006 (06/06/06). Another version of this hoax is targeting the parents urging them not to send children to school until that date has lapsed (according to the text, Mayor Konghun already ordered Subic Schools to suspend classes). And that this cult is going to abduct children to be used as sacrifices in their ceremony come June 6, 2006.

The circulating text messages even gives out details of these supposed “criminals” such as they are using owner type jeep CMG-?6? and a blue jeep JO9??? (writer used question mark since this is a serious accusation), with a name and where this person is currently working.

Mayor Gordon warns that the city will file criminal charges once the originators of these text messages are traced and assured the safety of his constituents citing that the City Police Office just recently won the Best Police Office award in Central Luzon and the City winning the AIM Most Viable City Award given last Monday.

“Huwag po sanang mag-alala ang mga taga-Olongapo dahil nahigpit po ang pangangalaga ng kapulisan sa kaligtasan ng mamamayan ayon na rin sa mahigpit sa kautusan ni Mayor Bong Gordon,’’ ang mensahe na nais iparating ni Police Director Buentipo sa mga taga Olongapo.

  • for a while let us forget about these txt messages.
ok, message content scare some people of olongapo but if you know about these policemen in olongapo city, it might touch the nerve in you. you see in our experience, we've been burglarized twice last year in our house at gallagher street and a break in in our office last month along magsaysay drive near the police precint. we filed a complaint to this same precint but, oh my, they said that nothing will happen because no suspect. is'nt it shocking to hear from a police officer?
do your homework olongapo city policemen, patrol the streets all the time, lessen your kayabangan, kasuwapangan and kabulastugan. all of you are being paid by taxpayers money, better, stay out of police work, we do not need lazy, ignorant policemen in olongapo city.
    salamat...
