US’ sense of justice on trial in Subic rape case
Inquirer
WE, OF THE Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino-Kababaihan, are enraged by the United States’ arrogance and refusal to surrender the four American military rapists! A crime has been committed and justice is required.
If the US Embassy honestly want to see that justice is served -- which we doubt -- then they should start by turning over the custody of the four rape suspects to Philippine authorities.
The Bush government professes itself as a defender of human rights in the world, but in fact it becomes the worst violator whenever US supremacy is in question.
For decades, the United States has been raping our country’s economy and continuously committing the most heinous crime against our women. Remember the Balangiga massacre?
The custody issue is a legal and a political question. And the United States’ refusal to surrender the rape suspects adds to the historical injustices it committed against our country and our people. It’s only just to cut our ties with a country that has no respect for the dignity of our women and our laws.
We should not allow the use of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) to evade justice. The VFA should be abrogated. So must all agreements, treaties, etc. with other countries, which are not favorable to our interests and contravene our country’s laws and sovereignty as a nation.
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez should be ousted for their failure to protect Filipino women and to provide them with justice.
