Clark locators yield P1.4b

CLARK FIELD, Pampanga—The Bureau of Customs (BoC) and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has collected some P1.4 billion in duties and taxes from companies located in the Clark Special Economic Zone (CSEZ).
Customs collector Ronnie Silvestre said the BoC has collected P540 million in taxes in 2005 compared to the P437 million in 2004, an increase of more than P102 million.
Silvestre also reported that the Customs house in Clark was able to increase its collections by more than 23 percent following President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s order to enhance collections to help fund government development projects.
Silvestre said the BoC here hopes to collect some P900 million this year to support the chief executive’s thrust to propel economic development.
At the same time, Revenue district officer Florante Aninag of the BIR regional office also reported a collection of more than P604 million in taxes from companies in the CSEZ.
BIR said the 2004 income tax collections from the workers at the CSEZ amounted to more than P476 million in 2004, representing an increase of P128 million.
Clark Development Corp. president Antonio Ng said there are more than 37,000 workers inside the economic zone since its inception in April 1993.
There are 408 registered locators in Clark, of which 349 are operational as of Jan 31. The remaining 33 firms have yet to report the number of their workers as of this date, Ng said.
