Zambales builds classrooms for Aetas
Olongapo City -- Fourteen classrooms were built for Aeta communities in Zambales through the initiative of volunteer organizations.
The Asian Development Bank Spouses Association donated P360,000 for the construction of a three-classroom schoolhouse in Palanginan, Iba and another two-room building in Nacolcol, Botolan.
These schools still need sources of water particularly deepwells to provide potable water to Aeta kids. They do not also have libraries.
Another 3-classroom school now completed at sitio Ibad, Aglao, San Marcelino was funded by the Chieng Tio Te Memorial Foundation with P260,000.
A teacher in these Aeta communities handles 3 grades. Pupils attend classes only during the rainy season. They stop going to school during the planting and harvesting months to help their parents in farm work.
The Judd Hendricks Memorial Founation provided P180,000 for the completion of two classrooms at sitio Lumibao, Buhawen, san Marcelino. Also in San Marcelino, at sitio Banaba, Sta Fe, the United Nations Women Association donated P90,000 for another classroom.
Also in Maporac, New San Juan, Cabangan, a three -classroom schoolhouse is being readied for this school opening. This school is a donation of the MAPE and it costs P240,000.
National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP ) Provincial Officer Chito Balintay said that the number of pupils to be accommodated by these classrooms were not determined yet because classes are not conducted as they are in regular schools, that is, for 10 months. (PIA)
