Public works office gets infra goal in 2006
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office accomplished its target in 2006 in terms of completed infrastructure projects. In his yearend report, DPWH Regional Director Ramon Aquino stated that vital projects like the improvement of the Manila North Road, Cabanatuan Arterial By-pass road, Tarlac-Nueva Ecija Port Road, Gapan-San Fernando Olongapo Road (including the San Fernando flyover), Subic-Cawag Acces Road, and others were implemented.
The DPWH regional office also completed projects like flood control, school buildings, farm-to-market roads, among others all over the region.
"I want to see Central Luzon as a progressive and flood free region with modern bridges and infrastructure facilities," Aquino said.
The agency, he added, had been an integral partner of the national leadership in the eradication of poverty.
"Our good road network provides fast transportation of goods and trade exchange allowing our people to venture into small-scale business and provide jobs to the poor sector of the society," he said.
Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. earlier said that one of the agency's desires is a "sincere appreciation from the Filipino people of what the government is doing for them."
"I likewise dream that one day, the public perception imputed in the DPWH's name be renewed towards a good image anchored on good performance, public service, efficiency, integrity, and excellence," Aquino said.
