Illegal release of 249 container vans to PEZA probed
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) will investigate the illegal release of 249 container vans for the Philippine Export Zone Authority (PEZA).
Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales immediately ordered the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) to conduct a thorough investigation on a certain Rommel Dela Cruz, the broker who facilitated the release of the shipments and all those in connivance with these unscrupulous importers.
Criminal cases are already being prepared for filing in courts against the perpetrators.
"We will get to the bottom of this and make sure that this kind of modus operandi is stopped," Morales said.
He commended the CIIS and Ronnie Silvestre, District Collector of the Port of Clark, for uncovering and reporting the illegal release of 249 container vans for PEZA.
Intelligence Chief Fernandino Tuazon reported that based on initial investigation, PEZA locators used in diverting shipments of plastic resin before were now used to smuggle in millions worth of shipment.
Tuazon said smugglers had been using locators at the Clark and Subic Special Economic Zones to evade payment of duties and taxes.
Shipments consigned to the J.C. Mall, a locator at the Clark Special Economic Zone, consisting of the 249 container vans of goods had already been released.
However, a check on the profile of the mentioned locator revealed that it has long been inactive. (PNA)
