Karag-karag na chopper ng US ibinigay sa RP

IPINAGKALOOB kahapon ni US Ambassador Kristie Kenney sa Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ang 10 ‘refurbished UH-1H ‘Huey’ military helicopters’ sa isinagawang seremonya sa Philippine Airforce (PAF) kahapon.

Ayon kay Kenney, ang Vietnam War-era helicopters magagamit para sugpuin ang terorismo at para rin sa humanitarian assistance.

Ang unang batch ng 20 surplus Hueys refurbished’ mula sa Estados Unidos ay nagkakahalaga ng $22 million na ga-gamitin ng military.

Ang Pilipinas na kulang sa mga gamit para sa armed forces, ay matagal nang nangangailangan ng mga karagdagang helicopter upang sugpuin ang mga rebeldeng komunista at Muslim insurgencies na nagkukuta sa mga sulok ng bansa.

Nabatid na ang military ay walang fighter jets at Navy vessels mula pa noong World War II. Tanging ang gamit lamang ng PAF ay ang mga second-hand, propeller-driven OV-10 attack aircraft, aging Hueys at 16 MG-520 attack helicopters, karamihan pa rito ay hindi magagamit sa gabi.

  • Its just like the ships that were donated by US during the bases-era. Lahat ng bibilhin mong pyesa sa US din manggagaling at dahil luma na mga donation, sa dami ng ipapagawa natin . . para narintayong bumili ng bago . . . at lagi pa tayong kakaba kaba dahil malamang bigla na lang magka crash yang donations na yan.
