Peace and Order Council of Olongapo lauded
OLONGAPO City: The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) awarded Olongapo the regional winner for the 2006 search for Best Peace and Order Council (POC) in the category for the highly urbanized cities.
Regional Selection and Awards committee head Estrella Avena presented the award to Mayor James “Bong” Gordon following the latter’s reelection into office.
“The continued recognition that Olongapo gets for its peace and order situation is one great source of inspiration for us; this is the result of the effective working relationship between the city government, the Olongapo City Police office and the people of Olongapo,” said Gordon.
In 2004, Olongapo was 5th in the national level, while in 2005 the city overtook Davao and Naga to bag the 2nd place in the annual POC awards.
This time, Olongapo having won the regional phase of the competition has qualified for the final selection process in the national level. The POC yearly awards recognition to a city that has demonstrated substantial success in the implementation of programs and projects that enhances its prevailing peace and order condition.
