P2.5-M bricks of marijuana seized; 6 fall

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police intercepted two large deliveries of marijuana bricks yesterday in Kibungan, Benguet and last Monday in Bontoc, Mountain Province with a total worth of P2.5 million.
The first seizure happened at 2:45 p.m. last Monday at a checkpoint on Bontoc-Kalinga Road in Sitio Lagkangeo, Calutit, Bontoc, in which a van (XLB-832) allegedly yielded 742 kilos of marijuana bricks with a market value of R1.6 million.
Julius D. Alcido, 30, driver of the truck registered to PCS Cargo Movers Network, Inc. in Subic Bay, Olongapo City, and his helper, Mario Dalacnas, 28, were arrested. The truck owner, one Lina Banao, 27, of Kalinga, was collared in a follow-up operation.
Meanwhile, R950,000 worth of marijuana bricks were yielded by alleged drug couriers – Bentres Layogan, 32; Marcelino Maguido, 27; and Ismol Layogan, 28, all of Kubugan, Benguet – in a police buy-bust operation at a restaurant on Km. 5, La Trinidad, Benguet, yesterday morning.
