SUMMER THRILL IN OLONGAPO
Olongapo City is once again having its yearly Summer Mardigras on March 27 to 29 sponsored by the Olongapo Business Club (OBC) in coordination with the city government under the leadership of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr.
Themed “Kalye Kasiyahan 2008”, the said summer mardigras begun with a motorcade on March 27 participated in by Ramon Magsaysay Drive (RM Drive) business establishments, sponsors and organizers.
Different stages have also been set up along RM Drive to stage colorful activities including the Search for Mardi Gay, Stage Slamming Dance Contest, SK Rockternative Band Competition, Super Road Show Concert of Manila Bands and some other variety shows featuring local and Manila artists.
Meanwhile, following the Kalye Kasiyahan is the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival (POF) Central Northern Luzon Qualifying Games hosted by Olongapo City and Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ).
With the POF Qualifying Games, different sports events will be held in the city and SBFZ including aquatics, archery, arnis, athletics, baseball, chess, football, gymnastics, judo, karate, muay, power lifting, sepak takraw, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling, golf, softball and volleyball. The said qualifying games will be participated in by some fifteen (15) delegations from different parts of Central and Northern Luzon.

In April, the Sibit-Sibit Festival 2008 will also spice up summer in Olongapo. Different activities have been prepared by the City Tourism Office for this event including Bangkang Buhangin Sculpting Contest, Bonggo Bingo Bonanza, Boat Competition, Summer Dance Craze, Beach Volley Ball and Search for Mr. and Ms. Summer Icon. The festival will be on April 25-27, 2008.
