CORRECTIONS OF CLERICAL ERRORS ON PUBLIC DOCUMENTS
The City Civil Registry Office, Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon, Jr. has announced new proceedings in the correction of errors based on Republic Act No. 9048.
The said Republic Act is entitled ‘An Act Authorizing the City or Municipal Civil Registrar or the Consul General to Correct a Clerical, or Typographical Error in an Entry and/or Change of First Name or Nickname in the Civil Register Without Need of a Judicial Order, Amending for this Purpose Articles 376 and 412 of the Civil Code of the Philippines’.
“At present, correction of erroneous entries on birth, marriage and death certificates are already allowed through the City Civil Registry Office without need for court proceedings,” Mayor Gordon said.
He said guidelines to avoid clerical and typographical errors on public documents has been provided in Republic Act 9048.
The following are some tips to do away with typographical errors and other problems on documents as emphasized by the City Civil Registry Office:
Clearly write the needed information in relation to the civil document applied for.
Avoid switching information to avoid erasures on documents.
Examine the entries on the documents for any wrong content before signing.
Be sure that all entries are aligned and readable.
Only black ink is permitted for signing; black typewriter ribbon for the forms; and black carbon for the additional copies.
