First Hanjin-built ship in RP to undergo sea trials

Subic Bay Freeport - South Korean Hanjin Heavy Industries Corp announced that the first ocean-going vessel built entirely in Subic Bay is set to undergo sea trials on May 27 before being delivered to Greece in June.

Temporarily designated as PN-001, the newly-constructed ship will be named Argolikos and will fly a Greek flag, with Piraeus, Greece as its home port.

Pyeong Jong Yu, manager of Hanjin’s Outside Business Department, said that the company have completed outfitting the vessel, a 41,000-ton cargo carrier ordered by Greek shipping company Dioryx Marine Corporation.

“We are proud that our first vessel will be undergoing sea trials on May 27 this year," Yu said in a letter to the management of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).

The ship is 258.0 meters long and is 32 meters wide with an optimal speed of 24.5 knots.

Five more units are expected to be delivered to Dioryx in the next few years.

Another six ships with individual capacities to carry 4,300 twenty-foot metal containers intended for the NSC Schiffartsgeselhaft of Germany are currently being built in Hanjin local shipyard. GMANews.TV
