Man shot by SAF officer dies in Olongapo City
OLONGAPO CITY - The 23-year old man who was shot point blank in the head by a Philippine National Police – Special Action Forces (PNP-SAF) officer died early Wednesday morning.
The mother of the victim confirmed that the victim, Ernie Lee, died around 4:30 a.m. this morning at the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital.
“My family is having a hard time to accept the fact that my son has already left us. That there are people in this world who are more deserving of this fate than has fallen upon my son," victim’s mother Gina Lee said.
Senior Superintendent Abelardo Villacorta said that the suspect, P/Insp. Jovito Pardeno of detailed to the 2nd Battalion PNP-SAF, was brought to the local jail near Camp Cabal in Brgy. Barretto.
"We will file the appropriate charges against the police officer," Villacorta told gmanews.tv.
Witnesses told the police that before the shooting incident, P/Insp. Paderno was seen slamming his hand atop the bar of Brew's Bistro while cursing some people.
They added that Pardeno followed Lee to the comfort room and later heard a gunshot. The suspect tried to escape but was nabbed by security guards of the establishment. Police later arrived and arrested the police officer.
The authorities recovered from Pardeno a .25 caliber pistol that was allegedly used in the killing of the victim.
Doctors at the James Gordon Hospital said that the bullet entered Lee's nape and was lodged in his skull.
“We will miss him, but I believe that he is already in a better place," Lee's mother said after learning his son was declared dead by hospital officials. - GMANews.TV

The son of a hotel owner here died on Wednesday, a day after a policeman shot him in a local bar.
Police said Ernie Iñigo Lee, 23, died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, a day after he was allegedly attacked by Inspector Jovito Pardeno in the toilet of the Brews Bistro here at 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Lee, who was shot in the head, died at the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital here.
Police said that before the shooting, Pardeno, a member of the police’s Special Action Force based in Morong, Bataan, bumped into one of Lee’s companions inside the bar. However, it was not clear if this triggered the attack on Lee.
Pardeno, who was armed with a .25 caliber pistol, was arrested by the bar’s security guards and later turned over to policemen.
Lee was the son of Robert Lee, who owns the Ridge Crest Hotel along Magsaysay Avenue in Olongapo City.
