SPES TRAINEES GRADUATE
Two hundred forty nine (249) student-beneficiaries of the Olongapo City Government’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) successfully finished the one-month summer job opportunity initiated by Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr.
In the closing ceremonies of the SPES 2008 held at the Olongapo City Convention Center on May 3, Mayor Gordon congratulated the student-beneficiaries of the program for having spent their summer vacation meaningfully.
“I congratulate our student-beneficiaries for a job well done. I hope that you were able to learn something from the tasks assigned to you as SPES trainees,” Mayor Gordon said.
Sixty (60) SPES grantees were also recognized as Most Outstanding SPES of the year, most of whom were assigned to different departments of the Olongapo City Government while others were deployed at private offices and firms.
After Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Evelyn Delos Santos confirmed thegraduation of the SPES beneficiaries, they personally received their certificates from Mayor Gordon.
Meanwhile, to show their gratitude to the City Government for giving them opportunity to be employed and earn some money, the young beneficiaries offered dance and song numbers during the program. Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Officer-in-Charge Angelita Fernando, City Personnel Officer Letty Doropan, City Population Commission Officer Gie Navarro and other city department heads graced the said event.
SPES is one of the educational programs of Mayor Gordon which gives job opportunities to deserving students in the city during their vacation period to help them earn additional money to finance their education for the next school year.
It can be recalled that education is one of the top priorities of Mayor Gordon’s administration as he believes that this is one way of achieving excellence.
