Wallem looking at Subic as transshipment hub
WALLEM Philippines Shipping, Inc. (WPSI) said they are planning on using Subic port as its transshipment hub to service various shipping requirements as the port has competitive edge over other ports in Asia.
Wallem is the agent for international carriers Heung. A shipping Co., Eastern Carliner and IRISL. Antonio Calingo Jr., WPSI sales manager, said his firm has chosen Subic as its transshipment hub because of its many advantages over other ports in Asia.
Subic is being positioned as a major maritime logistics hub.
“The security here in Subic is commendable, and the fees for storage, cargo habdling, stevedoring and other services are really competitive,” he said. Wallem will have a twice – a – month call at the port which will increase when the need arises.
Wallem’s the first used the port for its completely build up units (CBU) shipments in March. Wallem offloaded 257 CBU units of Isuzu D – Max pickup trucks bound for Dammam in Saudi Arabia.
Calingo said the transshipment of Iszu CBUs through Subic was a trial shipment to evaluate the performance of various service providers here, including the WPSI as shipping agent, the stevedores, the cargo handler, and port operator.
SBMA seaport department manager Capt. Perfecto Pascual said it would carry rolling cargoes for distribution to clients in the Asia Pacific region.
