Crab mentality at work in Subic drug bust

The drug haul at the Subic Freeport is so far the biggest in the country.

The street value of the methamphetamine hydrochloride (popularly known as shabu) that was seized could reach P15 billion, according to experts.

Credit for the drug bust goes entirely to the men of the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) assigned at the Freeport.

It took the PASG to uncover the drug smuggling syndicate at the Freeport; the ineptitude of the Bureau of Customs at the Freeport also showed.

When you do good in government, people envy you or wish you harm.

There’s a P50-million price on the head of Antonio Villar, PASG chief, reportedly put up by the syndicate behind the attempted drug smuggling.

Meanwhile, some quarters are trying to destroy the reputation of Villar’s chief of staff, Edmund Arugay, by linking him to the drug syndicate.

It was Arugay’s men who made the drug bust.

Arugay is on loan to PASG from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). He was a trusted lieutenant of the late NBI Director Reynaldo Wycoco.
