MOST SENIOR SURVIVING OFW AWARDED
Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. recently acknowledged Clodualdo Velchez of barangay Gordon Heights as the “Most Senior Surviving Overseas Filipino Worker” as recognized by the Overseas Worker’s Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region III.
The award was given during the recent “Araw ng Pasasalamat Para sa mga OFW ‘08” in Paskuhan Village, San Fernando, Pampanga. He was received a plaque of recognition and cash from Western Union and Globe Telecommunications.
Velchez, who will be turning 80 on October 20 this year, is married to Mila Velchez. He is the oldest Overseas Filipino Worker from Region III.
He worked in Iran from 1977 to 1979 and in Saudi Arabia from 1980 until 1988 at the British Royal Naval Base as a Ship Electrician.
He has four children all of whom graduated as professionals; Nurse, Civil Engineer, Doctor and Electrical Technician. He is currently active with a Religious Organization and has a house and lot, a two-door apartment and a sari-sari store which are all fruits of his labor as an OFW.
