`GAPO, GAWAD KALASAG HALL OF FAMER

Olongapo City’s Disaster Coordinating Council (OCDCC) and Fire and Rescue Team once again gained accolades and recognitions during the Gawad Kalasag Awards held on August 01, 2008 at Malacanang Palace.

City Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr., Vice Mayor Cynthia Cajudo, City Councilor Rodel Cerezo and Disaster Management Office (DMO) head Angie Layug received the awards from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) chief Gilbert Teodoro.

OCDCC was awarded ‘Best City Disaster Coordinating Council’ for the fourth year in a row while the city’s fire and rescue team was elevated to the Hall of Fame for their three consecutive wins as the ‘Best Emergency Response Team’ (GOERS).

Olongapo City bested other disaster response teams from cities such as Makati and Cebu.

“Kayang kaya nating maging Hall of Famer sa ‘Best City Disaster Coordinating Council’ basta’t nagtutulungan tayo lahat. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng bumubuo ng OCDCC at sa mga tumutulong sa amin,” said Layug.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang gagawin naming serbisyo para sa ating mga kababayan upang sila ay maging ligtas. Tutulong din tayo sa mga karatig probinsya,” Layug added.
