FIESTA CARNIVAL AND BAZAAR, TO OPEN SOON!

The much awaited City Fiesta Carnival and Bazaar will open on October 15, 2008 at the East Tapinac Oval Track (ETOT) as part of the events and activities lined up for this year’s celebration of the city fiesta.

The carnival will operate from October 15, 2008 until January 20, 2008. The operating dates and other provisions are included in a resolution by the Sangguniang Panglungsod entitled ‘A Resolution Authorizing the 2008 City Fiesta Executive Committee to Utilize the East Tapinac Oval Track (ETOT) for the City Fiesta Activities from October 15, 2008 to January 20, 2009.

The events and activities slated for this year’s fiesta celebration is expected to be much bigger and grander.

‘Olongapo has been made more accessible due to the construction of the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). Dahil dito we are preparing to attract more tourists to join our city fiesta celebration,” Mayor Gordon said.

One of Olongapo’s major industries is tourism and many of the business establishments in the city cater to tourists and visitors, like hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues and recreational facilities.

‘Ang pagdaraos ng mga bazaars, mardi gras at carnivals ay lalo pang magpapalakas ng tourism industry ng Olongapo and in turn, this will boost the economy of the city,” Mayor Gordon added.

The carnival and bazaar is also expected to be a major income generating project the proceeds of which will be used to fund the city’s major projects like education, health care and peace and order.

A resolution was also passed by the Sanguniang Panglungsod to assign a legitimate and experienced operator to run the carnival and bazaar.

It can be recalled that it was recently announced that the City Fiesta Executive Committee will be headed by Councilor Ellen Dabu, as chairperson. Joining her are Ellen Villar as Vice-chairperson and Iluminada Santos as Treasurer.
