REGIONAL AWARDS COMMITEE VISITS OLONGAPO
The Regional Awards Evaluating Team recently arrived in Olongapo City to provide technical assistance in line with the city's nomination for the prestigious Presidential Search for Child Friendly City under the Highly Urbanized City category.
During the team's courtesy meeting with Mayor James 'Bong' Gordon Jr., Mayor Gordon presented the city’s commitment in continuing its programs serving the children and the youth of Olongapo. "Patunay na dito ay ang higit pang pagpapalakas sa mga programa katulad ng Barangay Council for the Protection of Children at ang patuloy na pagbubukas ng pintuan sa mga temporary in-house ng lungsod tulad ng OCARE, Social Development Center at ang matatapos nang konstruksyon ng Youth Center sa Barangay Sta. Rita."
The Regional Evaluating Team wass composed of Tam Lerio and Marites Chavez from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, (DSWD), Remedios Valeria from the Commission of Human Rights (CHR), Ynetter Osio from the Department of Local and Interior Government (DILG), Oscar Sanchez from the Department of Health (DOH) nad Erlinda Tabalanza from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
Documents submitted by the city regarding its programs and projects for children and the youth will largely affect the city's standing. Through a table validation, the team rigidly analyzed the city's project accomplishments for the year 2007.
The team, along with City Social Welfare and development Office (CSWDO) head Gene Eclarino, visited the three barangays, namely, Sta. Rita, Gordon Heights and New Asinan are included in the random sampling.
The group's itinerary also included the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital, health centers, day care centers, schools, the Social Development Center and OCARE.
Olongapo City was recently cited as the most child friendly city in region 3 and thus, became the official representative of the region for the national search. The National Validating Team for the Presidential Search for Child Friendly City is expected to visit Olongapo sometime this month.
