CHESTNUT PEELING LIVELIHOOD PROJECT
A livelihood project called “Chestnut Peeling” is set to start this October at Barangay Mabayuan Hall through the initiative of Mabayuan Barangay Captain Edgardo C. Danugrao and support of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr.
Some 600 households stand to benefit from the project wherein chestnuts shipped from Japan will be peeled in their respective homes for which every kilo peeled will earn them P20. The peeled chestnuts wil be shipped back to Japan.
The first 10 tons or equivalent to 1 container van of chestnuts is expected to arrive this October.
Earlier, a peeling demo was held attended by Vice-Mayor Cynthia Cajudo at the Barangay Hall of Mabayuan .
Chestnuts according to Danugrao is the cultural fruit of the Japanese, and the dried peeled skin is used to make medicine for Dengue, and staple food for some animals.
The City government is continuously making projects to help and educate Olongapeños of the different ways and means to cope with the present crisis in our country.
