2008 DOST SOUTH LUZON S&T FAIR OPENS!
The 2008 Department of Science and Technology (DOST) South Luzon Cluster Science and Technology Fair has opened on November 12, 2008 at the Olongapo City Convention Center. As part of the opening, a Ribbon Cutting ceremony was led by Secretary Estrella Alabastro, Olongapo City Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr., Zambales Governor Amor Deloso, DOST Asec Carol Yorobe and other DOST South Luzon Regional Directors .
After the opening program, Secretary Alabastro delivereed a keynote message. Mayor Gordon and Govenor Deloso also gave their respective messages regarding the development of Science and Technology in their repective areas.
“I am happy to be here and host this affair,” said Mayor Gordon. “Libre ko nang ipinagamit ang Olongapo City Convention Center because I fully support this undertaking by the DOST. For a long time, since the US Bases, walang product ang Olongapo City and now I am proud to say na ang Gawang Gapo ay mayroong over 94 products in development dahil na rin sa tulong ng iba’t ibang sektor lalo na ang DOST.”
“We should push our products and make them more marketable. In order to make these products marketable, we need to apply more research and development,” Mayor Gordon added.
The S&T fair exhibit drew some 55 participants who set-up booths showcasing products from all over the country as well as research and development offered by DOST agencies and other academic sectors.
“Napakahalaga ng research and development sa ating Medium and Small Enterprises kaya dapat i-apply natin ang mga ito to make Philippine products more competitive in the global market,” said Mayor Gordon.
The DOST S&T Fair will run until November 14, 2008. No entrance fee and everyone is invited to take part in this innovative program by the DOST.
The event is organized by DOST Regions III, NCR, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and V with TAPI and Olongapo City Local Government Unit.
