IMPLEMENTATION OF ORDINANCE NO. 59 IN OLONGAPO CITY

Olongapo City Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon recently approved Ordinance No. 59 (Series of 2008) otherwise known as “Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Ordinance of Olongapo City.” This aims to establish Facility-based deliveries for all pregnant mothers in Olongapo City.

“Inaasahan ko na makakatulong itong ordinansang ito sa ating mga kababaihan na magkaroon ng ligtas at murang panganganak,” Mayor Gordon said in announcing the approval of the ordinance.

Ordinance No. 59, through the help of barangay officials aims to provide pregnant mothers especially those who are at high risk, access to health facilities during deliveries to ensure adequate and affordable basic emergency obstetric and newborn care. It also aims to disseminate education to prevent maternal deaths.

The City Health Office will be the lead agency in the implementation of the ordinance in accordance to the program of the City Mayor which makes sure that systems, programs and services are available at all times and will be offered to Philhealth Cardholders, Non-Philhealth members and especially the indigents.
