PACQUIAO BEATS DE LA HOYA!

Olongapenos joined Filipinos all over the country and the world in watching and celebrating the latest victory of Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao, the country’s ‘Pambansang Kamao’ on December 7, 2008 against the boxing legend Oscar Dela Hoya. The fight was dubbed as ‘Dream Match’ and was held at the MGM Grand Las Vegas Nevada, U.S.A.

In Olongapo City, the fight was viewed for free courtesy of Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. at the Olongapo City Convention Center (OCCC) where seventeen (17) LCD Screens and two (2) projectors were installed.

Mayor Gordon and Zambales Vice Governor and Olongapo First Lady Anne Marie Gordon, and other City Officials joined city residents who trooped to OCCC for the bout.

Viewers rejoiced and cheered everytime Pac-Man unleashed punches and attacks against his opponent. When Dela Hoya quit before the 9th, round, the crowd roared in celebration of his victory.

Sponsors of the event include Ocampo’s Mall (for the LCD TVs) and Colorview CATV. City Dentist Donald Vigo was the coordinator of this event.

Mayor Gordon also took the opportunity to reiterate the city’s ongoing ‘Anti Fire Cracker Campaign’ banning all kinds of firecrackers and pyrotechnics in Olongapo to avoid accidents, fires and even death.
