OLONGAPO CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH

First Lady and Zambales Vice Governor Anne Gordon led the parade participated in by more than one thousand (1,000) representatives of different women’s groups in the city, including the Soroptomist International, BUKLOD, SUGPO, BALIKATAN and Olongapo Mahal Ko Foundation.

Also joining the said parade held on March 10, 2009 were Vice Mayor Cynthia Cajudo, City Councilor Ellen Dabu, officers and members of the Olongapo City Women’s Council, teachers and students, barangay health workers, barangay officials and city government employees.

After the long parade, a program followed at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center graced by BUHAY Party List Representative Ma. Carissa O. Coscolluela.

‘’Mahalaga ang ginagampanang papel ng isang babae sa tahanan at komunidad. Kaya naman mahalaga na pangalagaan, respetuhin at kilalanin ang karapatan ng isang babae,’’ said First Lady Anne Marie Gordon, chairman ng Olongapo City Women’s Council.

In conjunction with the program, activity booths were opened at the Rizal Triangle which offered services such as a jobs fair, free medical consultation and mobile birth registration.

In-behalf of City Mayor James ‘’Bong’’ Gordon, Jr., First Lady Anne Marie Gordon awarded livelihood assistance to more than thirty (30) beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, activities for the city’s celebration of the International Women’s Month will continue for the whole month of March. The calendar of activities is as follows:

March 12 - ‘BUNTIS PARTY’ (1:30 P.M., FMA Hall, City Hall)
March 19 - Re-orientation of Brgy. Officials on RA 9262 &
RA 9344 w/ Cora David as Resource Speaker
(9:00 A.M to 4 P.M., FMA Hall, City Hall)
March 27 - Women’s Night (1:00 P.M., FMA Hall, City Hall)
March 30 - Culmination Activity (Flag Raising Ceremony, Rizal
Triangle Multi-Purpose Center, 7:45 A.M.)



First Lady and Zambales Vice Governor Anne Marie Gordon and the Olongapo City Women’s Council, together with Vice Mayor Cynthia G. Cajudo and City Councilor Ellen Dabu, led the parade of Olongapo women in celebration of the National Women’s Month with the theme “Babae: Yaman ng Bayan” on March 10, 2009.


The Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) also conducted a one-day job fair at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center simultaneous with other activities especially arranged for women. All these were made possible by Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. and First Lady Anne Marie Gordon in cooperation with the Olongapo City Women’s Council.
