AFFORDABLE DENTAL SERVICES FOR OLONGAPEÑOS
Dental health care is the least thought of by many when it comes to health concerns because it appears not to be life-threatening besides being perceived as expensive.
In this regard, an ordinance creating a Dental Services Division under the City Health Office was recently passed by the Olongapo City Council upon the motion of Councilors Gina G. Perez and Angelito W. Baloy and was signed and approved on April 3, 2009 by Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr.
Dr. Donald Vigo, acting supervisor of the Dental Health Services Clinic, recommended the immediate creation of the said division in response to public demand for continuous dental services at affordable cost.
“We are fortunate that the city government is recognizing the importance of dental health with the establishment of the said division under the City Health Office dedicated to oral health care,” Gordon said.
Some of the basic functions of the new division include the delivery of basic dental services to the community and establishment of dental health education programs.
Basic dental services include extraction, filling, cleaning and restoration. The said division is also expected to promote dental education as a preventive tool.
Gordon stresses that “Awareness is the beginning of good dental care. People think that dental care is not important but when we get dental problems we become irritable, we can’t perform well.”
“We use our teeth for proper digestion when eating and it adds to our face value because having a good set of teeth gives us confidence,” Vigo added.
