2009 GARANTISADONG PAMBATA PROGRAM ROUND 2

City Nutritionist Richel Eve Torralba said over SBC dwGO radio that the second round of Garantisadong Pambata for 2009 is on. Every year the city government through the City Health Office implements the health activity to care for the welfare of young children in Olongapo.

The City Health Office under Dr. Arnildo Tamayo launched the “Garantisadong Pambata – Round 2” program for children age six (6) months to five (5) years. The program will run the whole month of October.

‘’Garantisadong Pambata’’ program includes Vitamin A supplementation for children (age 6-72 months), deworming, giving of Ferrous Sulfate tablets to lactating and pregnant women and administration of the Expanded Program in Immunization (EPI) to infants (age 0-1½ year old). Among the free vaccines are BCG, DPT, OPV, Hepatitis B, and Measles.

Household Salt Testing will likewise be conducted as well as promotion of fortified foods with Sangkap Pinoy Seal by the Department of Health. Foods with Sangkap Pinoy seal contains micronutrients such as vitamin A, iron and iodine which the body needs to maintain a strong, healthy and active physique as well as sharp mind.

Meanwhile, Mayor Gordon invites parents to bring their children age 6-72 months to the nearest Health Center to avail of the ‘’Garantisadong Pambata’’ feeding program. Health workers in the city will also bring the services to the homes of residents living far from Barangay Health Centers.
