Edible Landscaping Free Seminar
Through the initiative of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, the City Agriculture Office and Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Council of Los Baños, Laguna will jointly hold a three (3) day seminar on agriculture and climate change and extensive training on basic urban agriculture and community garden development from August 27-29, 2010.
The seminar will take place at the FMA Hall, City Hall on the first day and Gordon College on its second and third day. Some 200 attendees are expected from NGO’s, church, schools, barangays, Urban Basic Services Program (UBSP) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS).
The objective of the seminar is to educate the public on the advocacy of adopting urban agriculture as strategy to resolve the problems threatening the environment, safe food scarcity, and source of livelihood community; and a comprehensive training program for the development of workers in government, idle yet able citizens, and organize support groups to realize this issue.
The expected output after the three-day-seminar are; increase public awareness on the role of urban greening, promotion for establishment of home, barangay and community gardens and utilization of idle and vacant lots.
